Dr. Robert Mills is a computational biologist and expert in microbiome research, with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of California, San Diego. He specializes in integrating multi-omics datasets—including metagenomics, metaproteomics, and metabolomics—using advanced computational tools, machine learning, and systems biology approaches. His research has consistently pushed the boundaries of how complex microbiome data can inform human disease understanding and treatment.

Since joining Piton Therapeutics in 2021, Dr. Mills has led the computational biology team, spearheading discovery efforts across data collection, hypothesis generation, target identification, and validation. His contributions have been foundational to Piton’s development pipeline. He has co-authored numerous high-impact publications in top-tier journals, including Nature Microbiology, Cell, Nature Neuroscience, Genome Research, and mSystems, and is co-inventor on numerous patent applications.
